James Januzzi, MD, FACC
James Januzzi, MD, FACC, an experienced clinical cardiologist and clinical trialist, with interest in cardiovascular disease therapies, particularly for patients with heart failure. Well known for extensive experience with cardiac biomarker testing, including for troponins, inflammatory markers, novel tests such as ST2, galectin-3, GDF-15, and especially the natriuretic peptides. Presently studying the interface of novel diagnostics and therapeutics in cardiovascular disease.
Chairman of the International NT-proBNP Consensus Panel and the International ST2 Consensus Panel. Section editor for the ACC/AHA Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Heart Failure, and lead author of the heart failure section for the Universal Definition of Myocardial Infarction Global Task force. Currently a Trustee for the American College of Cardiology.
Widely published: more than 500 peer-reviewed manuscripts, reviews and chapters. Three textbooks. Main area of focus is in biomarker testing.
Active and experienced cardiology clinician at the Massachusetts General Hospital, with a large clinical practice, with a focus on heart failure and coronary artery disease. Cardiovascular disease consultant to the Boston Red Sox baseball club since 2005.
