This one-day course will cover state-of-the-art topics on the management of patients at elevated risk of cardiovascular and cardiometabolic disease due to underlying systemic inflammation. This course is designed to provide an informative and practical guide towards the clinical management across a spectrum of cardiovascular conditions in those with systemic inflammation, who are at risk for accelerated atherosclerosis and with such disease states as recurrent pericarditis, myocarditis, and autoimmune conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and antiphospholipid syndrome.

The course is meant to be an update into recent data linking systemic inflammation and cardiovascular disease including the cardiovascular complications of immune-mediated inflammatory conditions. Multimodality imaging is increasingly important to manage cardiovascular disease in those with systemic inflammation and updates will be provided on novel techniques to image the vasculature to assess cardiovascular risk. We will review current updates in the clinical management of cardiovascular complications of such autoimmune conditions as rheumatoid arthritis, the cardiovascular complications of medications used in autoimmunity, and an update into models of collaborative care between cardiologists and rheumatologists. The day will end with cases and practical lessons from cardio-rheumatology clinics including those related to pericarditis and accelerated atherosclerosis driven by systemic inflammation.

Question and Answer sessions will be spread throughout the day to encourage interaction and audience participation with interspersed panel discussions from experts describing their own experiences, practical approaches, and lessons learned from cardio-inflammatory clinics.

This course is organized by NYU Langone’s Center for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease in collaboration with the Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
